There are times in life when you can’t help but feel alone, out of place or disconnected. It’s only natural that we build walls to enclose ourselves to fight the silent battle alone. I am sharing my story to encourage anyone silently fighting their battles to reach out.
Fresh out of college, I struggled to navigate the transition into adulthood. Realising that the routine I had in place for 13 years had concluded, and losing that familiar structure was something I couldn’t grasp. Feeling lost and alone was something I had never really experienced before.
Recently, I lost my beautiful Nana. She was a major influence in my life, often filling in the position as my second mum. Losing her has been difficult.
In both cases the thing that got me through were the core people in my life that I trust and could openly talk to about my feelings. Being empowered to cry if I needed to, and to say exactly what I am feeling, and not being judged.
Identifying and overcoming depression is a challenging journey, but reaching out to someone can make all the difference. Sharing your struggles with a trusted person opens the door to receiving support, understanding, and guidance. They can provide a listening ear, offer advice, and help you find resources to navigate through the darkness.
If you don’t have anyone you can talk to, Samaritans provides a free, confidential helpline that anyone can call for free, day or night. You don’t have to face it alone. Reach out and let someone be there for you.
