From left: Stu Milne, Paul Hewitson, Letha Whitham, Peter Frawley, Alex Jones and Will Bell (not in picture) are running 60km to raise money for the Samaritans.
Runner Paul Hewitson says “New Zealand has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. I wanted people to know there is always someone wanting to help on the other end of the phone. If I can raise awareness of the amazing work that Samaritans do and raise some money for them at the same time – then that’s worth running 60km for!”
Life can be tough sometimes. But everyday Samaritans volunteers are there to listen and help people work through whatever is troubling them. Last year the Samaritans helpline received over 30,000 calls from people dealing with issues like relationship breakdown, job loss, financial concerns, bereavement, loneliness, depression and suicidal thoughts.
Please support the amazing efforts of this group of runners and of our Samaritans volunteers by making a donation to keep the Samaritans helpline open 24/7.
